Music journalists who only write one way

simon_t [Edit] [Delete] 09:14, 26 February '08

How delightful to see from today's Guardian blog that Steven Wells has written his column again - http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/music/2008/02/dog_rock_invasion.html Presumably "all your cool music is shit, listen to shiny pop!" annoyed somebody in 1993 and he was so delighted he's run with it ever since, which is why he thinks liking Girls Aloud and Pink is a counter-cultural statement.

Is there some sort of mental block that takes over once a journo with enough experience finds one way of writing that somebody reacts to? Paul Morley's fingerprints are all over, say, Plan B's house style, but for a few years now his written work has been so stuck on working over a single theme and getting tied up in lexicography regardless of context it might as well be headlined 'POST-MODERNISM FIG. I'.
