what is your favourite classical composition?

eightyseven [Edit] [Delete] 19:04, 26 February '08

quite recently, i heard igor stravinsky's 'the rite of spring' for the first time. i don't think i've ever heard any piece of music as unsettling as that.

at first, i argued in my head that perhaps nick cave's birthday party and early-to-mid bad seeds stuff was unsettling, but it's not that same. while cave has the discord and creepy vibe of classic horror down, stravinsky is a master with the heightened tension.

when listening to 'the rite of spring', i kept looking around as if there was a murderer behind me, or something, even though my back was against the wall. and i had to pause it a couple of times, so that i could adjust (?) to the dread it was conjuring up. but it all excited me and made me feel quite primal.

so, what's your favourite?

i apologise if this is too long/too "art-fag".
