Class War!

Ryanxxx [Edit] [Delete] 02:20, 28 March '08

I'm CERTAIN this has been up here a million times before but im new to these boards so hey...I've had way too long a discussion with my friends tonight about whether music that comes from struggle and poorer/wkng class backgrounds is more believable, real, and 'true' than music made by people from more priveliged upbringings....i'm so so so torn...when i look at my most played records they all seem to be made by artists of the hard done by variety but i dont think this is a conscious thing...and i think i do like a story of struggle and i like it when artists have toiled to get where they are..argh! like, i always loved blur's music over oasis but annoyingly i believed in oasis more...i know that Elliot Smith and Nick Drake (although he was well posh) werent having the best of times but is this why their music is infinitely better than james blunt and that Morrison fella? apparently the clash were all middle class boys, and i love the Strokes but it somehow annoyed me when i learned that some of them went to a Swiss finishing school...i sort of think it doesnt matter...i dunno the background of EITS, godspeed, the national, broken social scene and the walkmen but i still love them...BOO!
