I remember agreeing with the idea of it being 'fuckin 8 minutes long' and that was really epic and long for a song when I was younger, then you listen to real music and It's fairly typical for anything instrumental-based or proggy/experimental to be at least 8 minutes long, and this really is just a typical song. But it represents the attitude of commercial music very well that eight minutes is 'really fuckin long' for a song.
