Out of all of the albums most likely to feature in a QMOJO "100 best albums of all timexxcore" article, there are few as deserving as this one. As beautiful as any other piece of music you're likely to find, far more emotionally engaging than all that Sgt Peppers/Dark Side of the Moon bollocks - this is proper music, performance at its most natural, expression at its most untamed. The way the instruments just flow together with an almost unprepared laxity, despite the seemingly choreographed nature of what's being played - it's as if a perfect moment in time has been recorded. That's the thing about this album: the people involved seem to be so caught in this moment of inspiration, not least Van. His vocal performance is absolutely outstanding - passionate, driven, enchanting, beautiful, almost possessed by the soul
