I don't particularly mind it, yes it's very loud, but then again it's a Metallica album.

I realise it's a bit of a wall of sound (and not in the sense that Phil Spector would have envisaged), but I think it's still an enjoyable record.

Oh and I realise there must have been threads on this already, but people have possibly had more time to assess the album by now.
