Any Londoners who have nowt to do tonight? Vapour Trail JAG

Mozalini [Edit] [Delete] 12:07, 17 October '08

Hurrah! Sorry for the JAG, but our clubnight The Vapour Trail is on tonight and features a headline set from Songs from the Shows (featuring ex-Untitled1961 bassist Steve and ex-Time.Space.Repeat drummer Ania), with support from The Drowners, The Firm & Higher Love. Blurb:

As per usual, we will be playing the very best in shoegaze, post-punk, C86, gloom rock, new wave, noise pop, alt.rock, goth, psychedelia, indiepop, grebo and space rock and you will witness an array of fabulous bands each month. Previously, along with North London owners The Firm, bands that have graced the Vapour Stage include The Drowners, Untitled1961, Doe Face Lillian, Tempting Lilu, Monocle Rose, The Resistance, The Rayographs, The Virgin Suicide and N N Minus, and you can bet your left buttock that 2009 will see further brilliance from those and more.

DJ SETS FROM:
Julia Justice (The Firm/Trashcan Club)
Magenta Placenta (Tempting Lilu)
Simon Drowner (The Drowners)

THE VAPOUR TRAIL

FRIDAY OCTOBER 17th 2008

----VAPOUR TRAIL FIRST BIRTHDAY & JULIA SIERADZKI'S 18TH* BIRTHDAY PARTY----

* this might not be true, although her birthday falls on that very day!

SONGS FROM THE SHOWS

The new outfit from Untitled1961 man Steve Cross hits Holloway in style. An unusual but extremely effective concoction of powerful drums, baritone guitar and not one but TWO basses, the group have already been likened to Joy Division, Sonic Youth, Shellac and The Cure and are, without question, one of the bands to watch out for over the next year. Combining elements of noise rock, post punk and even math rock, it's a sound that, on paper, shouldn't work but, in reality, does with ease.

THE DROWNERS

The return of the raucous three piece, this time with the added bonus of already legendary new drummer James at the helm. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the boys in black, their sound has been described as marrying early Cure with Holy Bible-era Manics, although the raw anger of Nirvana, the frenetic riffery of Placebo and the pained meloncholy of Radiohead can all be heard within their sound.

THE FIRM

With our debut single 'Life's Dismal Results' out in February, and our new guitarist Chris P Willsher (did you see what he did there? Did ya?) adding a blistering wall of sound to a sound already uneasy on the eardrums, we play Julia's birthday and that of the legendary Trail. It's not easy to describe our sound but comparisons we've had thrown at us in recent times include Sonic Youth, Jesus & Mary Chain, The Cure, Interpol, The Smiths, Suede, Geri Halliwell, Rick Astley, Vanilla Ice and Peter Andre.

HIGHER LOVE

Describing themselves as cold rock, a description definitely apt, these guys mark their Vapour Trail debut with the very first performance of the clubnight's new era. Bands you could possibly compare them to include The Doors, U2, The Cure, Killing Joke and Nirvana, and with a sound at once desolate, intricate, and emotive, they are the perfect band to kickstart proceedings.
