Everyone's thoughts on mastering?

I know some people are opposed to modern mastering and all that jazz (and I'm slightly worried about sacrificing the dynamics), but basically I was looking to be pointed in the right direction...

Anyone got anything mastered recently and ended up really happy with the results, cost and all things considered?
