Where have the best songs been written.....

belsizeparka [Edit] [Delete] 13:40, 22 October '08

and how have they come about?

I'm working on an article about the subject and I'm looking for inspiration. I'd imagine most songs are written in studios or on tourbuses, but then again some are just written in a front room. And wouldn't it be ace if that was your front room. I know Noel Gallagher wrote 'Cigarettes and Alcohol' in Flat 32. 4th Floor, India House, Whitworth St. Manchester. (its on the DVD) imagine reading that and thinking '....hang on, thats where I live.'

Is there any other famous address' like that. Berry Gordy used write the Motown songs at Hitsville US, 2648 West Grand Blvd. Detroit, Michigan.

And then how do songs come about? Paul McCartney wrote Yesterday after awaking from a dream, Thom Yorke wrote part of 'How To Disappear Completely' after playing a gig at the RDS on June 21st 1997 (I know the date, it was my first gig).

Does anyone have any other stories or titbits? Even just shout names at me and get my creative/investigative juices flowing.
