Audioscope Festival 2008 - in support of Shelter: Kid606, Boxcutter, That Fucking Tank, more

TheoGB [Edit] [Delete] 09:52, 24 October '08

Morning,

My mate Stuart runs Audioscope festival annually in Oxford and it's always a pretty amazing line up and the Oxford Tube coach service from London is cheap and quick for getting and back.

This year's main event is on 15th November. The press release is below:

KID606 LEADS LINEUP OF TOP LEFTFIELD MUSIC STARS IN SUPPORT OF SHELTER

US electronica star Kid606 tops a stellar list of the finest leftfield and alternative artists at this year's Audioscope festival in Oxford, flying in to play the annual event as a one-off UK performance.

The all-day main event, which raises money for Shelter, the national housing and homelessness charity, takes place at The Jericho in Oxford on Saturday 15 November, with additional Audioscope shows on 6 and 10 November.

The full lineup is as follows:

Kid606 (Tigerbeat 6, Ipecac)
Boxcutter (Planet Mu)
That Fucking Tank
The Oscillation
Soeza
Witches
Hey Colossus
The Workhouse
You Animals
Sunnyvale Noise Sub-element

Since 2001, AUDIOSCOPE has raised more than £17,000 for Shelter through live music events, presenting the best in local and national independent music in the process.

This year's bill is topped by San Diego's Kid606, who is one of the most exciting and influential electronic musicians around, mixing up the hardest, most danceable excesses of techno, breakbeat, dubstep, bassline and pretty much everything that's great about electronica in 2008.

The show also features Boxcutter, who is one of the most influential figures on the UK dubstep scene; Leeds-based That Fucking Tank, one of the most energetic and confrontational bands around; The Oscillation, who play a bewildering mix of pop songs and expansive psychedelic freakouts that demands comparison with the harder edge of krautrock and bands like Spiritualized or Loop; plus performances from Oxford-based stars Witches, The Workhouse (who play their only gig this year at the event) and Sunnyvale Noise Sub-element, who also organise the festival.

Additionally, Audioscope and Oxford venue The Regal have teamed up to promote a performance from US math-rock pioneers Don Caballero on Monday 10 November (at The Regal), and there is a curtain-raising warmup show at The Cellar on Thursday 6 November, featuring Bletchley's Glenn Branca-inspired Action Beat, and a new band featuring members of Oxford bands The Workhouse, The Evenings and Sunnyvale Noise Sub-element, called From Light To Sound.

Acts who have supported Audioscope by playing in the past include Four Tet, Explosions in the Sky, Clinic, Luke Vibert, Scout Niblett, Damo Suzuki (Can), Michael Rother (Kraftwerk, Neu!), Clark, The Young Knives, Electrelane and a host of other bands from across the UK and beyond.

AUDIOSCOPE co-organiser Stuart Fowkes said: “We're very excited to be able to present a showcase of some of the best alternative artists around. We believe that by supporting Shelter, we can not only raise funds for the charity, but also raise awareness of the problems of bad housing and homelessness both on a local and a national scale.”

Shelter’s director of fundraising Alan Gosschalk said: “We are delighted that Audioscope have been supporting Shelter over the last eight years. Shelter has seen a marked increase in demand for our housing aid and advice services in the wake of the credit crunch, as people struggle with mortgage arrears, negative equity and the threat of repossession, so Audioscope’s support has never been more vital.”

Tickets for the 15 November event are on sale for £11 in advance at www.wegottickets.com, who will also donate the 50p booking fee to Shelter, or for £12 on the door. The event runs from 1.00 pm until 12.00 midnight. More information about AUDIOSCOPE is available at www.audioscope.co.uk.

Cheers
Theo
