You know NOLA sludge metal right?
you know, the swampy, swingy boogie kind EYEHATEGOD, COC, Crowbar type??
Who came up with the idea to play the swingiest, hip shaking boogie riffs as a backdrop to some of bleakest lyrics/vocals ever?
I mean, you reckon this is some intentional stylistic device to contrast upbeat (but distorted) boogie with/apocalyptic lyrics?
Or did they just listen to too much skynard and ZZ Top?
I've been thinking about this for a while but didn't think there was much too it.
but if you compare this to say, the more doom, droney, Melvinsy, post-bullshit flavour of sludge which is all dark, and slow, and dark, and pretentious, and slow, and dark, and evil, and pretentious, and dark, and evil,...the contradictions within Southern sludge makes it all the more interesting
