Innovative, beguiling and uplifting

Musical innovators Spiro create distinctly contemporary music rooted in English folk tunes. The result is complex, driving and uplifting. Peter Gabriel’s RealWorld label released their long awaited second album Lightbox last year to an incredible response, not least seeing it placed among Songlines and Froots Albums of the Year. With arrangements that make it hard to believe it is a band of only four, Spiro combines minimalism, dance rhythms, classical harmonies and discords to entrancingly joyful effect.

Cliff Stapleton supports with hurdy-gurdy breakaway improvisation. He has played with seminal and contrasting bands COIL and Blowzabella and has featured as guest performer with Oxford’s own Telling The Bees.
