This gig is for fans of Lightning Bolt and general heavy noisy incapacitating music!
An all-star lineup of some key Norwegian improvisers make some dense and chewy stew for you to mull. Kjetil Brandsdal of Noxagt on bass, Frode Gjerstad (leader of the Circulasione Totale Orchestra)
on altosax & clarinet, Anders Hana & Morten J. Olsen of Moha! on electric guitar and drums respectively. Ultralyd possess an avant-garde schooled energy that is heavy but also wielding a downtuned rock vibe. Drums explode, clarinet pushes, guitar and bass swirl with massive sheets of throb and feedback. Moments of quiet hum jut up against busy shitstorm to make an engaging sonic experience.
Ox Scapula formed as a bit of a noisy mess-about but ended up making an awesome noisy mess. The idea was to create klangy, challenging guitar music informed by the likes of Sonic Youth, Polvo, Unwound etc. They finally finished their first recordings in February 2008 having already played gigs with Kong, This Aint Vegas, Charlottefield, Spy Versus Spy, Bilge Pump to name a few, and have since released two 7" records and a tape release on Sea Owl Tapes soon to be released as a download on British Wildlife Records.
Collider is a new band from the Leeds Improvised Music Association featuring members of trioVD, Bilbao Syndrome and The Rabbit Project. Collider takes up where the above bands stop; exploding in all directions, all at once, all of the time. Jagged guitar, skull-shredding synths and grinding rhythm section meet in a head-on collision of improvisational energy and psychedelic headfuckery.
Mathew Bourne - synth/keys
Dave Kane - bass
Chris Bussey - drums
Chris Sharkey - guitar
