So The Body's 'And All Waters of the Earth Shall Turn to Blood' is probably really decent...
... as evidenced by the fact that those people who've given it the worst reviews are those critics in the 'metal' end of the musical spectrum, and also because I've listened to it in full four times already and normally I cannot stand anything even loosely referred to as 'doom metal', yet this has some flavour about it I am finding oddly appetising right now.
It's less music and more a brutal barrage of well constructed noise that just makes you hold onto things tightly while remaining in horrified fascination as to where it's all taking you. There's inventive stuff going on here but you won't find it on the first two or three listens. What you may find surprising is how it all starts to feel a bit...fun. I see Pitchfork liked it too so the fact that's it's good is probably gospel now then anyway.
I don't know, I have a strange habit of getting into some pretty dark stuff when the sun is out and everyone else is feeling the need for grooves - I think I like music that mocks the weather. :0)
