RSD exclusive releases that aren't really exclusive
After the mania of record-buying on Saturday, it's fairly apparent today that lots of the exclusives will be more widely available:
- Franz Ferdinand's covers EP is getting a full retail release next month
- Gorillaz' album on vinyl is already widely available in Germany and is allegedly getting released over here 'later'
- Lots of record shops on Twitter have talked this morning about getting extra Smiths/Foos/KoL/St Etienne from the distributor 'this coming week'
- Rise in Bristol have been given an unspecified amount of extra stock of the Fleet Foxes single (beyond the stated 500 edition pressing) for their record club.
Feels really misleading to have 'one day exclusive pressing of five records only!!' on the website if the labels are making extras and withholding them for sale until a few weeks later. How many people would've really bought the Gorillaz one if it didn't appear to be an RSD exclusive?
