Group Doueh
...
Group Doueh from Dakhla in the Western Sahara, are a band who morph effortlessly, just like the vital and heavy sandblasted music they make. For this tour the enigmatic guitar hero Bamaar Salmou, who is known simply as 'Doueh' (pronounced: 'Doo-way') and his wife, the incredible vocalist Halima, bring a son on live drums and a son on keyboards as well as two female backing vocalists/percussionists. A live set-up that can switch from soaring and hypnotic rocking and rolling guitar songs with huge choruses to meditative and transcendental acoustic folk tracks. The group's ancient/modern is rooted in the traditional foundations of Sahrawi/Hassania music, but one that is also entirely its own. It shares its roots with the neighbouring styles of Mauritanian music, however Group Doueh have managed to transcend the classical limitations of that music with a fiery, independent, and individualistic approach that incorporates a distinctly rock element anomalous in the region. This is a sound that can only come from the land that inspired it: the Sahara desert.
Buoyed by an early invite to play at Animal Collective's ATP the band will play select dates around Europe. This will be their first tour since the famous Sublime Frequencies Tour of 2009 with Omar Souleyman. The band will be a six piece with Doueh's son on keybaords and two amazing backing singers/percussionists backing up the powerful and soulful voice of Halima on lead vocals, all led by the totemic Doueh on guitar and Tinidit.

Alan Bishop & Rick Bishop present: 'Brothers Unconnected' A tribute to Sun City Girls and Charles Gocher
The Brothers Unconnected is a tribute to the legendary band Sun City Girls. Sun City Girls were an experimental music trio from the United States founded in 1981 by brothers Alan and Richard Bishop. Charles Gocher joined as percussionist in 1982 and SCG went on to become what many have described as North America's most innovative and influential underground group.
In February of 2007, after a long battle with cancer, Gocher passed away. Alan and Richard immediately decided that Sun City Girls will no longer exist as a recording or performing entity. A private memorial was held shortly after and during the summer of 2008 the Bishop Brothers toured North America under the name The Brothers Unconnected: A tribute to Sun City Girls and Charles Gocher. With that tour, Alan and Rick made good on their vow to publicly honor Charlie, his memory, and his immense talent. The Brothers Unconnected also serves as a tribute to the legacy of the group. At the time there were plans to also take the show to Europe yet this never materialized until now. The Brothers Unconnected performance will feature Alan and Richard playing selected songs from the impossibly voluminous catalog of Sun City Girls material created during their 27 year history together, including several tracks written by and/or originally performed by Gocher.
