Recounting nineties sub-genres
Thought I'd work through some of these, for old times sake.
A couple of playlists to get things started:
Riotgrrrl - ball bashing feminist hardcore. All about the scene around Washington/Oregon - Bikini Kill & Bratmobile. Had to throw in some Hole, Babes in Toyland and things like that to make up the numbers.

Lionrock - I can't remember which gormless music hack coined this phrase, but it seemed a reasonably apt description for that breed of british band that was neither indie-dance or shoegaze. Slightly deshevelled indie-rock - like a UK Grunge but evolved from C86 rather than punk.

Further playlists on the way:
Britpop: (obviously)
Shoegaze: (ditto)
Grunge: (ditto)
Grebotronica: (hippy disco or crusty electronica - Eat Static/Shamen, that sort of thing).
Murder Rap: (when gangsta rap got really nasty)
Just a few suggestions - anything else?
