The Blog Sound of 2013
In 2011, a small bunch of independent music bloggers discussed the idea of collating the combined thoughts, knowledge, and passions of the UK blogging community to create the Blog Sound of 2012 – our own poll to highlight some of the best emerging artists. Andy from the Von Pip Musical Express organised the poll and you can see the results here: http://www.thevpme.com/2011/12/05/the-sound-of-2012-long-list-the-bloggers-alternative/
The idea was in no way, intended as a platform to criticise the BBC’s Sound of List, but simply an experiment to see if UK bloggers could come up with its own list that was more representative of their community and give the artists that were nominated some extra publicity. Indeed the idea was to compliment the BBC list in many ways by providing an alternative to compare and contrast.
Indeed last year’s final long list did provide some interesting alternatives to the BBC list; most notably, it included Alt-J this year’s Mercury Prize winners, who didn’t feature on the BBC list at all. With success of the list, which was publicised by the voting bloggers themselves through their blogs, but found its way onto the national and online press, we’ve decided to run the poll again for 2013. This year Robin from Breaking More Waves , with a bit of help from Andy from The Von Pip Musical Express and Bill from God Is In The TV Zine. have been getting their hands dirty at the musical coal face and asking bloggers for their hopes, tips and dreams for 2013. http://www.godisinthetvzine.co.uk/2012/11/20/the-blog-sound-of-2013/
