DiS 13th Anniversary Shows
Who should we book?
Since the Desaparecidos show, I have had some interesting chats with Ian from Songkick who's behind Detour... You remember how you all said you'd buy tickets and things felt a bit Waynestock if-you-book-them-they-will-come, that was Detour: http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/crowdfunding-concerts-how-fans-can-get-their-heroes-to-play-in-their-hometowns-8513675.html
I think this is the best and most DiS-community-driven way to decide who comes over to London this year to play for DiS' birthday (which is in October, not that the shows HAVE to happen then.. it can just be the focal point of a series of events - which once the act are over or agreed they're up for it, can spread outside of London). Can we manage to agree on 13 acts we love? Should we demand some acts do 'don't look back' sort of gigs? Are there any artists who never come to the UK? Any bands we should try to get to reform? Any bands coming back who we could get to play the first show of their new record in London rather than New York or LA or Stockholm or wherever? Or is there a band you've seen a lot but have a venue in mind where you'd most love to see them play but they always end up playing somewhere like Koko? Supports... We had JoFo with Desaparecidos, who would be your dream support bands for your picks? I'm thinking these gigs would be shows like Colin Stetson supported by Factory Floor in Queen Elizabeth Hall...
Let's chat about it for a week or so, and put together a shortlist of London shows (obviously getting the band here means we can look to do shows outside of the capital), and much-like way ATP vs the Fans Detour will then weed out the unrealistic ones (which will things like 'not playing live at the moment' 'agent has them tied up to only go with a certain promoter' 'band won't reform'), we can try to put together a list of maybe 25 names to ask the wider DiS audience who don't check the boards, to stump up to see. In short: PLEASE HELP ME MAKE A SHORT-ISH LIST. And get your requests in now or forever moan about it.
