and it was incredible. His new band is phenomenal. Totally different sound, just him backed by guitar, bass and drums, reworking old material into a kind of 60s/70s heavy rock/psychedelic style for the most part, with a few funky excursions in to some freewheeling jam stuff. A lot of unfamiliar stuff, but given how massive and in some cases obscure his back catalogue is it was hard to tell what was new and what wasn't but I'm hoping he's gearing up for a new, proper album with this band. It was good to see him remaining vital and interested rather than turning in a jukebox set, although he did oblige with some classics. It was my first Prince show, but I doubt it'll be my last, although getting to see him at a small rural festival only about 20 people back from the stage will be pretty difficult to match.
