So Haim's 'Days Are Gone' is ready to play on Spotify, I see
First impressions (listened to it twice now, in quick succession, which is always a good sign!), are that it's very good, indeed. Bloody palatable stuff, that's for sure.
Everyone knows the singles, of course, which are present and correct and as infectious as ever, but the new material is just as fantastic and really fucking catchy, too. 'If I Could Change Your Mind' is an 80s pop hit worth cruising along to and 'Honey & I' is fab.
There's a couple of curve balls too. The title track seems to owe more to the likes of of MJ than Fleetwood Mac, and the 'My Song 5' is a complete collage of stuff for bluesy guitar riffs, to heavy R&B. It's just what Lindsey Buckingham would have wanted to do when he was trying his experimental stuff.
I don't want to overplay the Fleetwood Mac thing (which I know I've laxily just done) 'cause I'm not sure they sound that much like them all time, but the LP finishes off with the most FM-ish song they've ever done, IMHO.
Some special part of decent, this LP. Thanks to CHVRCHES' excellent debut, it looks like September has given us the two strongest pop albums of 2013, perhaps since Tegan & Sara's Heartthrob back in January, or something.
Have ordered both (as special editions, obviously).
