I'm not. I haven't even drummed up the motivation to buy their new album as I know it'll be a middle-aged, "tasteful" Horlicks-fest. I like them for three main reasons - their mostly noble political causes, Generation Terrorists - the only album I'd ever have in my all-time top 100 as it achieved the impossible adding intelligent, self-aware lyrics to none-more-80s glam metal, and their original image, which needed to give British music an, ahem, good kick up the arse in 1991 when it was a bit "shoegaze, Senseless Things tribute bands or bust."

But it's impossible to look at pictures and think they're the same band, and it was also impossible 15 years ago, in which time they've released a mix of utter boredom (PFAYM), albums with extraordinary tracks but a general feel of mellow, "tasteful" AOR (Lifeblood, This is My Truth, Send Away the Tigers), genuine fiery brilliance (Journal For Plague Lovers, written in 2009 using lyrics written 15 years before!) and genre-hopping which is indeed very interesting, but not necessarily very good. (Know Your Enemy - well, the first eight tracks were more entertaining than any other British band could muster in 2001, but calling a track 'Epicentre'.. a bit A-Level Geography textbook, eh?)

They fully deserve their place in the canon, and their incisive knowledge about how pop and rock works is something to be treasured, but they're so inconsistent and confused about their identity I'm not sure if I could ever call myself an obsessive fan.

Also unless the next album is something genuinely groundbreaking, I'm growing a bit tired of Nicky Wire's "bitter old man" attitude. I'm a bit scared he'll say something mean about the Mueslims next to get attention.
