Napalm Death vs Art Installation
I managed to see about half the show as the trains messed up and it started while I was still half hour away. What saved it was the art installation failing miserably to destruct even though it was loud as fook. It was a big wall of speakers and woofers under a wooden structure covered in bathroom tiles that was set up in the middle of the venue, band on stage and the audience corralled in at the sides so the atmosphere was rather odd, I got there and they're been playing for about 20 mins and there was a grand total of... about twelve tiles on the floor that had been shaken off. Barney announced the artist had done a better job of tiling than his dad on his bathroom, which had lasted ten minutes. So they decided to play a little longer.
Half hour later, another five or so tiles gone, they'd played Nazi Punks Fuck Off, a hipster climbs over the barriers and starts kicking and punching the installation, throwing tiles at it, trying to knock it down, five security manhandle him out the venue, then someone else does it, then a girl has a go at it, I'm trying to convince my brother in law to grab the bin we're standing by and throw it or jump over and have a go myself, there was real feeling that it could have descended into something a bit more, er, interactive. But the band stopped, we all went home. Really fun, unusual show though. Oddly enough, I wonder if they had played loud enough? I've been at the front of enough Part Chimp shows and pure noise things and even though ND did their best, it wasn't really *that* loud. I was astounded at how on form they are live these days. Anyone go?
