2013: Better for singles than albums?
Maybe it's just me, but for the first time in a long time I've not adored as many albums as I usually do, but I've been obsessed with some incredible songs.
Our tracks of the year have just gone up (there's a playlist for those who are a bit tl;dr until the weekend) and it got me thinking that maybe this year was a better one for tracks than LPs? Thoughts? Just a sign I'm getting old? Or has it been this way for a while, because artists focus on tracks that cut through to get them attention, and the rest of their records end up being a lot of the tracks they wrote to get to The One...? Or due to economics acts don't have as much time or resource to make albums as well as they once did? Too many bands lost in laptop possibilities and focussing more on experiments on albums than writing killer hooks and glorious melodies? Should we just blame Animal Collective for lowering the bar and the decline of the album...? Or...?
Anyway, here's our team's top 40 songs of 2013
