Deluxe Editions. Necessary?
Are they?
Must admit to enjoying reading suggestions in the 'albums you'd most like to see a deluxe edition of' thread but...
Wouldn't you rather own the original release, as intended, no messing / tinkering?
Surely all the 'lost' material is sourceable via bootlegs and MP3's, etc. The occasional Deluxe Edition can be desirable and nice but always expensive and usually loses value as opposed to the original gaining value and being the ultimate item for a fan of a certain album / band. Also it screams of record companies exploiting artists (usually defunct or deceased) when they could be investigating / investing in new bands not i.e. lavishly repacking an album(s) people already own.
Good light hearted read about this here http://everyrecordtellsastory.com/buying-the-beatles-on-vinyl/
