Gallon Drunk - The Soul of the Hour
Any fans of the band here?
Just had their new record come through the post today, and blimey it's a good 'un. The first track is this horrible/glorious nine-minute piano-driven epic, and the rest of the record sees them stretching themselves out of their comfort zone as well. Appropriately, given their ties with Tindersticks, this record feels like their The Something Rain - a welcome change of sound and a step-up in quality. A very expansive, out-there take on garage rock: you can see why their frontman James Johnston got tapped to work with the Bad Seeds and Faust on this one for sure.
It's still streaming over on The Quietus (http://thequietus.com/articles/14602-gallon-drunk-the-soul-of-the-hour-album-stream), and for some reason Amazon are selling the special edition of it for a tenner, so I'd get on that quickly.
