by bands who the critical establishment/pretty much all of their casual listeners left behind.

There Are Rules by The Get Up Kids is a really good album. I prefer it to either of the two that preceded it. It was catchy and unexpected and really changed up their sound in a way few bands well in to their second decade, and second incarnation, would try.
