Albums which should have been other things
An album is a collection of ideas which form a story. Not necessarily coherent, and sometimes obtuse to the extent where only the sharpest mind can tie the loose ends together (e.g. Be Here Now) but Tom Yorke's new Bittorrent extravaganza got me thinking, in particular this line.
"Anything can be released this way, this time it just happens to be an 'album' by some dude named Tom"
Why do people constrain themselves into the boring structure of an album? I mean, when the first album was created, it was a compilation of songs with no theme. That has evolved to the album we know and (all except for sean and that record label guy) love today. But what if an album wasn't the best theme? Maybe Metallica's St Anger album would have been far more successful if it was a limited edition clothing line, or Papa Roach's debut album could have been a series of themed statues hidden in miscellaneous locations throughout the city of London.
This thread is to explore these alternative routes, and reveal ourselves to be the true artists we really are.
