Social media & the music community
I'm interested in finding out what everyone's experience with social media in the music community has been like. I'm not talking about forums like these but more about stuff like Facebook, Twitter etc. I've known a lot of musicians that have really struggled with social media and found it pretty difficult to get on with the general music community they found on there. The most common issue has just been with trolls but the over saturation of them has been pretty bad as well. I guess this is why I want to find out what experiences other people have had and if they have found any alternative channels that have been useful to them.
I've only found one that has stood out from the others as a friendly music community but also a decent stand-alone channel which is Zugme.
I think this was the original article I heard about them on - http://www.pissedoffgeek.com/2014/08/04/zugme-launch-citysocial-campaign/
It's essentially just another site that allows people to share music an videos but the general community on there seems to be incredibly friendly and diverse. One of the things that stands out about it is the ability to post stuff linked directly to a city. It might not seem that special but being able to search something like “Music @ Bristol” is pretty damn useful if you want to find more local bands or general events in the area. The other thing that I like about it is that you can post videos/pictures/audio as a comment directly on the video without needing to link it which makes for some interesting threads! It's not just music though, they have everything being posted on there from film news to food stuffs so there is a hell of a lot going on.
If anyone wants to check them out, this would be the link - http://www.zugme.com/register
Forgive me for waffling on but like I say, this is something I'm pretty interested in. What kind of channels are you guys using? Anyone had any great/terrible experiences with the different options open to them?
