They don't actually have to be better, just albums you prefer despite them being overshadowed by their preceding/succeeding album.

Cocteau Twins - Head Over Heels (better than Treasure, although you may say Heaven Or Las Vegas is their 'best' album which is also true).

Talking Heads - Speaking in Tongues (better than Remain in Light). Remain in Light is probably better but Speaking in Tongues is more straightforward, has higher highs and a great funkiness to it. I can't get through the second half of RiL.

Fleetwood Mac - Fleetwood Mac (1975) (better than Rumours).
