4 years ago, totally unaware of her earlier career with reality TV group Danity Kane, I heard an EP by a woman called Dawn Richard. It had some really interesting production flourishes and I liked her voice; it reminded me in places of Kelis.

12 months later, she released her debut album, Goldenheart. It was a 65 minute R&B opus, whose loose concept pitched her as a Joan of Arc-type figure battling demons and enemies for love. It was - is - an utterly intoxicating mix. An incredible vision and pulled off with such style. I could go on.

2 years later, she released her follow-up, Blackheart. It was more difficult as a listen, fully of knotty, challenging production. And yet, it was - is - a riveting experience.

Soon, Dawn will be releasing the final part of the trilogy, Redemption Heart. She just released a song in advance of the album. It is bloody brilliant. I am very excited.
