bow/rosin question

ThingsThatFly [Edit] [Delete] 23:21, 10 November '08

I recently took up the musical saw, whilst I couldn't control it that well I could get a nice sound out of it at first, got bored and left it for awhile, came back to it recently and it sounds awful, it will buzz and make screechy sounds sometimes splitting into two notes at once (harmonics I guess). Only possible things I can think of is i've snapped a lot of hairs on the bow and I used cello rosin instead of violin rosin that I was using before, doubt there are many saw players here but I guess the physics is the same for all bowed instrument, so my question is does using a worn out bow or does using a stronger rosin than required make horrible sound on other bowed instruments, i'm hoping I haven warped it or something.
