Musicians wanted, London, rock/alternative

hugbot [Edit] [Delete] 12:26, 4 September '11

This is a fairly long post, the short version:

24 year old guy, live in hackney, looking for a band. I play guitar/bass, sing and can program a synth.

Longer version:

I've been looking for musicians for a while and have fallen into the following routine a lot: you meet someone on a classified ad, exchange emails for a week, arrange a man-date where you go out for a drink or something and talk about musical influences, eventually sort out a practice in Enterprise or some other london rehersal studio, jam for a bit and realise 20 minutes in it isnt really working at all, (while paying the jerks at enterprise £10 an hour to write music on crap equipment) go seperate ways.

Maybe you put on the next ad "NO TIMEWASTERS" or something in bold font, which seems very silly to me as its not like anyone will read that and think to themselves "Well thats me he's talking to, I'm the timewaster. He's got me pegged"

This has played out a lot for me, it gets very tiring and the more I consider it, redundant. Surely anyone who is serious about writing music would regularly make recordings and demos to some capacity? Thats how you make a good song right? By working on it in your own time, not by meeting up to throw out blues licks for an hour a week when your schedules coincide.

So, I propose we skip all the back and forth and you just send me a demo and we'll try to work on it from there online. If we can work that way, great, theres like a 99% chance we'd work well in real life too. If not, then we've just saved each other a lot of time. Sound good?

Also, for reference, heres a big list of bands I like copypasted from facebook:
