i have a wonderful old ivory bracelet i bought from a charity shop for 99p. it is one of my favourite possessions and i wear it everwhere.

the way i see it:
this is certainly old ivory, pre ban. the elephant is dead anyway. if i had my way, no elephants would have been killed and ivory wouldn't have to exist. however, someone has put a lot of effort into carving it, and it is beautiful. i bought it in an anonymous setting, where it would be impossible for a third party to know it was ivory (therefore the risk of perpetuating the modern ivory market is nullified).

however people are so taken aback by my bracelet, people far older than me express shock and distaste that i would wear ivory, and they look down on me for it.

what do you think? am i wrong for wearing it?
