That curious lack of structure during a football-less summer

dove_from_above [Edit] [Delete] 18:32, 25 July '07

Anybody else hate it?

I read in a rather good Adrian Chiles article (extract from some book or other) in G2 today that he loves the summer, as it provides him with a welcome break from football. Now, I don't profess to be as committed football fan as he (and he does enjoy professing it), but he was quite aggressive in his belief that any 'proper' football fan loves the summer, as it means they are free from despair, stress and suffering

I don't buy it. Granted, I support a fairly successful team, but the summer feels so empty without football proper. Yeah, it's great to read tabloid speculation that will never, ever amount to anything, and yeah it's good to nip to the odd pre-season friendly in a ramshackle excuse for a 'stadium'

But I miss Soccer Saturday. I miss Super Sunday. And, dammit, a part of me even misses Soccer AM

Those three months during the summer without football - pretty shit?
