'Hopefully': an adverb

FunKargo [Edit] [Delete] 11:28, 13 August '07

"Hopefully, we will get to the show on time."

WRONG^

"Hopefully I'll get this job."

INCORRECT^

'Hopefully' is an adverb, not a verb. Using it as in the above context means arrival at the show with hope, NOT hoping to arrive at the show, which is the intention of the use of 'hopefully'.

The use of 'hopefully', in most instances, should be replaced with a phrase like "I hope that" or "all being well".

Thanks for your time.
