not being able to work somewhere because of where you are from

pieces_of_reece [Edit] [Delete] 17:10, 3 September '07

The girl I sit next to at work, who I sometimes refer to as annoying American girl, has just been sent an email, having worked here for well over a year, saying that the RPA cannot employ citizens of the USA.

At the beginning of the year most of our team who were temps were offered civil servant status, which she was not elligable for, because of her nationality, but she has been allowed to work here as a temp since, until today.

A few months ago a girl from Iran started, and when they found out where she was from, she was escorted off the premises, which was horrible for her, but I can understand that the government cannot employ citizens from countries that may take advantage of delicate information, but the USA are one of our closest allies, and this just seems incredibly insensitive.

Have we fallen out with the US then? Or has something happened that might change our relationship as a nation with them?

ps. I’m rather annoyed by this, even if she was a bit much at times, she is a lovely person and this seems so cruel :(
