Dear DiS Guidance Counsellors...

colonol_k [Edit] [Delete] 12:04, 10 September '07

Hello DiS.

I am 26 years old and I have a job. In this job I'm more or less my own boss, I can wear my own (scruffy) clothes, I can listen to music, I have lots of responsibility, I can work from home when I want to, and we're only a little company so everyone knows and likes each other. It has 'perks', shall we say.

However, the whole company's structure needs a massive overhaul, we're short-staffed, I'm working longer hours than I should be, I'm hugely stressed there, the company's run badly, and I can't see things improving. I don't get paid enough, we don't have particularly good sick pay benefits and there's no company pension plan. I think I could get these things by moving to a bigger company, but that would mean losing the perks.

It's something I've been thinking about recently, and I'm in a quandary. It'd be like moving from a crappily-run (but fun) indie label to Sony or something.

What would you do?
