When I worked in town they were essential to my 'bacon and tinned tomatoes on a tin plate' ethos of cheap London eating, though I usually has liver and onions and a bolshy steaming coffee to wash down the school pudding-esque dessert. Sadly I don't work 'in town' anymore or go out there as much and I miss the routemastery feel of eating the same meal as, oooh, the kids from the Beat era would have chowing down a hearty plate of cheap sustenance followed by copious amounts of Players Number 6 before heading off to the Marquee to see the High Numbers or something.
