If promoting gigs do venues assume you want a soundman?

I've been trying to contact the George Tavern and make sure they'll have a soundman there for tomorrow's gig:

I haven't managed to do so yet (they seem the most laid-back venue on Earth, which is great but can be frustrating) and they haven't checked their Myspace for the messages I sent them so I'm panicking mildly.

As a general rule do venues assume you want a soundman unless you state otherwise or expect you to provide one? I've never been entirely sure - I've always asked when I've done things at the Good Ship (and indeed once at the George Tavern) but I've never been sure, if I didn't ask or they didn't get the message, what would happen.

Any thoughts?
