Historical musical places (and others) you really couldn't wait to see in London

prole-art-threat [Edit] [Delete] 13:12, 11 October '07

well I was always soppy daft about the most minutest connection to a place and a famous person.

When you come to London to live, work, die or get tickets to see That FUcking Tank, don't you always want to go to venues and 'areas' that are associated with the things you spent your whole youth greedily and obsessively reading and re-reading about just to finally see and 'feel' what has gone on, to feel the 'past echoes' or to close your eyes or to stare at the pavement or look at the sky and try to imagine yourself there when they, them or it were doing whatever it was. These were mine (well some)

Hope & Anchor Islington - scene of Joy Division's first London gig in 1978

304 Holloway Road - Joe Meek's gaff

Finsbury Park Tube -scene of Graham Bond of the Graham Bond Organisation's fatal fall

Dublin Castle - can you imagine Madness on that stage now?

Good Mixer - well half the people wh'd been there were still there when I first went in.

Marquis of Granby, Fitzrovia - pub where George Orwell was sick over the bar.

Maida Vale Studios - countless bands and comedians I've loved - just ghosts of everything I admire hidden away down winding corridors and high vaulted auditoriums

There's loads more but really what I'm trying to say is does anyone else feel that beautifully eerie sensation of seeing something that really is just ordinary that is so loaded with romantic connotations in your brain or am I just sad?
