Is it ideologically compatible to be a Marxist and not have a job?

theguywithnousername [Edit] [Delete] 18:02, 15 October '07

I was having this discussion with a friend last week.

Many of the most self-proclaimed left-wing people I know (not all Marxists admittedly but I believe many of them roughly are) don't actually work for a living (many also squat, don't pay taxes etc.)

Surely the whole logic of a Marxist system of government is that everyone works and pays taxes to contribute to society as far as they are able?

So is it an impossible ideological position to claim any kind of belief in Marxism or similar political doctrines whilst not working/contributing to the society in which you live?
