It looks like I may need to buy a budget digital SLR before I go on a reporting trip, and I was wondering if anyone here could give me some suggestions on the best option? Sony, Canon, Nikon? Some tips would be useful.

I'm not a photographer, just a journalist, so ease of use is essential. I can learn all the manual settings later, but at the moment I'm looking for a good compromise between ease of use and image quality.
