Script writers strike

easy_rob [Edit] [Delete] 14:01, 8 November '07

Whilst I completely agree with the tv show writers striking. As it seems to make sense to pay the writers a larger proportion of income made from dvd/internet etc. sales. Rather than most of the money going to the studios/channels.
I'm not sure that the strike will work, if anything it will take a while for the studios to realise how much original programming is needed. I mean I'd reckon that instead of showing original programming they can just show repeats of old shows (they could still do this? as they own the rights?) and create infinite god awful paint by numbers shit - x factor, how clean is your house, chat shows...humiliation tv. - which don't require talented script writers. And at least for a while (until people get sick of it) viewing figures will remain high, advertising revenue come in, and the shows will be low budget to make...
although, do studios/companies rely more heavily on dvd sales than advertising revenue?
I just don't think the script writers are seen as a necessity , and its like 'so what, we don't need you we can put any old shit on and people will watch it.' I dont think its an exaggeration but tv production companies really have little faith in the intelligence of the 'average' viewer.
