In 1942, there was a submission to the Whitehouse for the development of the 'Bat Bomb'. Bat Bombs were tiny incendiary bombs attatched to bats, developed for use during the 2nd world war. The plan was abandoned when one of the bats escaped and set fire to the test centre, and the rest went to roost under a fuel tank. The plan cost the US millitary $2 million.
