OUR DRAIN WAS BLOCKED... WITH A GRENADE!
09:00 - 16 November 2007

When Kelly Morrell spotted a blockage in her drain three months ago, she thought at first it was a dead tortoise.

Using a hammer, a metal pole and a pair of barbecue skewers, she did all she could to dislodge it.

But when her landlord turned up earlier this week she realised just how dangerous that could have been.

She had been prodding a Second World War hand grenade.

...ok, now I know elements of this story cry 'fucking moron', but thats standard round these parts. I'm more alarmed at the fact that a hammer seemed the best tool to use on a blockage when they thought it WAS a tortoise. Imagine that poor bastard.

Still, on the same day that The ICe Area and E.on erect a huge ice rink in the square without getting planning permisson, anything can happen in this back water of the East Midland.
