Some Notes on the X Factor

prole-art-threat [Edit] [Delete] 14:16, 26 November '07

Oh yes, we all watch it whether ironically or because it shuts out the voices or the lonely metallic clanging sound of an empty soul. Its just entertainment and, let's face it, that's all music is no matter what you dress it up in or how 'indier than thou' you are BUT I really must draw the line with two things I saw on Saturday:

1. No one should ever EVER sing 'Without You' in the arrangement that Mariah Carey did so or for that fact even consider covering said song. Have these people EVER heard Harrry Nilsson's bare knuckled red-eyed version before? Talk about wringing emotion out of a deeply troubling song - if your 'version' does't make people feel like youve been attacked by a Puma after taking part in a funeral marathon, then just leave it alone, ok?

2. Using choirs. End-of-the-world-in-music-form Westlife used [insert token community choir] a choir to shore up the octave jumping final chorus of their latest reformed-meat Dannyboy-shafting heartclogger adding absolutely nothing of value to an already value free commodity. Really, if you want to use the magic that is the human voice in harmony, please ensure you understand emotion first, you shit-for-brains professional Micks.

That's it really. Music is entertainment, but really make the effort and make your mark with something that resonates through time.
