Text messaging: Will it change our lives 4EVA?

dove_from_above [Edit] [Delete] 16:04, 26 November '07

How much of an impact do you reckon texting is going to have on the English language?

I mean, obviously language evolves and develops over time. Stuff like the birth of the printing press etc have probably had a lot to do with the way we're speaking now. But I can't imagine that there's ever been a time where so many people have the means to influence modern language as they do now

I try not to abbreviate too much in texts. I'm not trying to be a linguistic hero, but it just looks less irritating. Language should be used, not abused (you like that shit?)

Has there been any evidence of kids already letting txt spk enter their academic vocabularly? How long will it be before teachers give up trying to eradicate these so called 'errors'?

Am I scare mongering? Or is this really happening, happ-eniiing?
