A question about sampling, samplers and doing it all live

SCROTUM [Edit] [Delete] 19:50, 26 November '07

Basically, I'm getting a band together and as Christmas is coming up, and with the general lack of a drummer (my personal talent in that field leaves a considerable amount to be desired), I reckoned using a sampler for beats could work.

Could it though? What I'm looking for is a machine that will allow me to program beats, loops and various sound clips through my Mac and then subsequently use it live to not only provide a decent and sustainable backing rhythm, but also one through which I can drop the occasional clip from a homophobic 1950s homophobic educational film.

And is it a sampler that I'm looking for, or something entirely different?
