why sign up?

i mean, is it possible to access any more content by signing up or something? i just mean, if all you do is Read the site without contributing to the boards then why create a profile?

this was kind of inspired by that other thread which had similar content as well as by looking at the profile numbers around my own and realising that none of them are active.

any thoughts?
